Heraeus Electro-Nite
Location
Peru, IN
The expansion for Heraeus Electro-Nite, located in Peru, IN consisted of a 108,000 square foot Butler pre-engineered building expansion. The design team consisted of Design Consultants, Silver Creek Engineering, Beaty Construction and 40th Parallel. Soil borings indicated material located to 20’ below finish floor that required removal. This proved cost prohibitive and deemed the need for deep auger cast piles to support the entire structure. A late project start along with wet site conditions created additional obstacles. We were able to get the soil stabilized within the building footprint which allowed drilling equipment to operate during the winter. Crews fought the winter weather but were able to get the foundations in place allowing building erection to start in early March. A large amount of sitework was completed in the spring to create the needed stormwater retention. During the initial earth moving phases an old oil drilling relief line was located. After several meetings and phone calls with local authorities and DNR representatives we were able to cap the 1100’ deep line several hundred feet below ground. This process took approximately 4 months to complete. Once the building was partially enclosed the slabs were installed. The slabs were held to an extremely high floor flatness rating. This rating was required due to high rack storage and narrow aisles being accessed by automated forklifts. Once slabs were in place the office area, shipping offices and plant restrooms were constructed. Dock areas included (8) loading docks, exterior dock slabs with enclosed areas over a few of the docks. Despite the many obstacles the site and winter presented the project was completed from start to finish over a 9 month period meeting the owners tight schedule with zero injuries and within budget.
